What Are LDL and HDL Cholesterol?
Hypercholesterolemia, also known as high cholesterol has been a health issue for many people for quite some time. If you have been told that you have a low HDL and a high LDL, this means that you have unhealthy cholesterol levels. Abnormal cholesterol levels are defined as having a high LDL cholesterol or low HDL cholesterol and you want to have a high HDL and a low LDL. Your LDL measures your “bad” cholesterol. Having a high LDL that goes untreated can cause buildup of plaque on the walls of arteries. Your HDL helps to rid the body of LDL; increased levels of HDL means there will be less LDLs around to contribute to plaque build-up.
